A Binding Moment Approach to Molecular Orientation. Except for the Kier index, each of the conventional molecular shape descriptors requires a standard orientation of the structure. In the case of the shadow and length/breadth descriptors, this is along principal axes of the molecule. In the case of the MSA descriptors, the structures were aligned by matching the following three atoms ...

Finally, there are those who wonder how the scattered field in the forward direction can be maximum when everyone knows that we have a shadow there. Well, as explained already in Chapter 2, Section 2.2, and Chapter 5, Section 5.3, these individuals are simply thinking about the total field. Recall that this is the sum of the scattered and the incident fields. They will partly cancel each other in the forward sector and create a shadow as expected. In other words, the incident field will primarily be absorbed by the antenna when matched, and a relatively weak total field will be observed in the forward scattering sector. See also Chapter 5, Figs. 5.2 and 5.3. 

The almost perfect lattice match between Au and Ag is, of course, uncommon. For lattice mismatched systems the initial growth may again be pseudomor-phic, but after completion of a critical number of layers, the strain energy built up in the thin film is relieved through the onset of misfit dislocations which destroy the shadowing. 

Thermal expansion All parts (panel, funnel, neck, solder glass, and shadow mask metal alignment pins) must match fairly closely, 90 to 100 X 10 /°C.
