Sequential grafting

It has been demonstrated that hydrophobic, fluorinated, hyperbranched poly(acrylic acid) films can passivate and block electrochemical reactions on metal surfaces thus preventing surface corrosion [57]. Hyperbranched films can be synthesized on self-assembling monolayers on the metal surface via sequential grafting reactions to obtain thick and homogeneous films. [Pg.421]

Another interesting design of mixed polymer brushes was obtained by sequential grafting of asymmetric nonsticky/sticky diblock copolymers of poly(styrene-b-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate) and monomethoxypoly(ethylene glycol)-trimethoxysilane onto silicon wafers (Han et al., 2013). The nanoscopic morphology of these mixed polymer brushes exhibited stimuli responsive behavior to various temperatures and solvents. [Pg.129]

To overcome these problems, a surface-initialed living radical polymerization technique is used for preparing polymer brush surfaces, where precisely controlled polymer chains are densely tethered. The technique also can be used to construct block copolymer on the surfaces by sequentially grafting another polymer via the active polymer-end groups of a first-grafted polymer brush. As a typical surface-initiated Uving radical polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and reversible addition-fragmentafion chain transfer radical (RAFT) polymerization are... [Pg.212]

In addition, we also used bimodal brushes by sequentially grafting chains of two different molecular weights onto the wafers. First, a monomodal dense brush was established from compar-... [Pg.164]
