Separation complexing agents

Less stable parts of the sludge can be treated by holding in tanks for extended periods of time to allow the weaker emulsion to break and separate a clean product. The mote stable sludges can be broken by mechanical action in filters or centrifuges, by recycle to the furnace for redistillation, or by redistillation in auxiliary units. Chemical attack via oxidation or complexing agents that break the emulsion has also been employed. [Pg.351]

Exploiting the relative basicity of the xylene isomers, commercial units employ superacids, typically HE—BF, as the acid complexing agent for the separation of / -xylene (feedstock for isophthalic acid) (15). Amoco produces high purity / -xylene at its Texas City facility using the HE—BF process (see Btx processing). Similar processes can be used for the separation of high purity mesitylene and isodurene from their and C q isomers, respectively. [Pg.506]

Capillary Electrophoresis. Capillary electrophoresis (ce) is an analytical technique that can achieve rapid high resolution separation of water-soluble components present in small sample volumes. The separations are generally based on the principle of electrically driven ions in solution. Selectivity can be varied by the alteration of pH, ionic strength, electrolyte composition, or by incorporation of additives. Typical examples of additives include organic solvents, surfactants (qv), and complexation agents (see Chelating agents). [Pg.246]

Acetone cyanohydrin is used as a raw material for insecticides manufacture and also to produce ethyl a-hydroxyisobutryate [80-55-7], a pharmaceutical intermediate. It has been used as a complexing agent for metals refining and separation. Acetone cyanohydrin complexes can be used to separate, Cu , , 7x5, Cd , or Fe from Mg , , Ca , Na , or on strongly basic ion-exchange resins (31). Acetone cyanohydrin is... [Pg.413]

In addition, EC-ALE offers a way of better understanding compound electrodeposition, a way of breaking it down into its component pieces. It allows compound electrodeposition to be deconvolved into a series of individually controllable steps, resulting in an opportunity to learn more about the mechanisms, and gain a series of new control points for electrodeposition. The main problem with codeposition is that the only control points are the solution composition and the deposition potential, or current density, in most cases. In an EC-ALE process, each reactant has its own solution and deposition potential, and there are generally rinse solutions as well. Each solution can be separately optimized, so that the pH, electrolyte, and additives or complexing agents are tailored to fit the precursor. On the other hand, the solution used in codeposition is a compromise, required to be compatible with all reactants. [Pg.8]

Used industrially in organic synthesis, in the manufacture of insecticides and pharmaceuticals, as an intermediate in the synthesis of methacrylates used as a complexing agent for metals refining and separation. [Pg.345]
