Sentences commentary

Throughout Silas Marner, George Eliot uses vocabulary, sentence structure, and philosophical commentary to teach her reader a moral. 

This would have made some sense, at least, if Remer had foregone his commentary and I had been sentenced for my report and not for somebody else s commentary, but that was not the case. 

In its decision, the court made no secret of the fact that it held revisionist thinking itself to be reprehensible and punishable by increasing the severity of the sentence.664 However, the sentence against Rudolf to 14 months prison without probation was based on the false contention that Rudolf had at least knowingly contributed to the political commentary contained in Remer s version of his expert report. Whatever Albert s final position on alchemy may have been, he exercised a serious influence on later commentators of the Sentences. His student Thomas Aquinas, who began lecturing on the Sentences in 1252, takes much the same position as Albert in his own commentary on book 2, distinction 7. Thomas begins his question by asking whether demons can induce a true corporeal effect in corporeal matter. Like Albert, he then proceeds to give a list of negative answers. It is not clear which text is referred to as Instructions ( e) this gloss is not found either in the commentary to the Nine Elixirs or in the other texts related to it. The text of the note (or, possibly, the commentary, zhu) mentioned in the second sentence—my translation of which is tentative—also does not appear in the other works on the Nine Elixirs. 

The commentary also remarks that half an ounce of the ancient times corresponds nowadays to one ounce. In the last sentence, the adverb ge ( each ) suggests that one should restore the word jinshui, Mercury Water. ...
