Senators qualifications

Visibly angry, Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, a strong advocate of veterans claims about harms from Agent Orange, questioned my scientific qualifications, my motives, and my conclusions. He invited the chairman of the IOM committee back to the witness table to respond to my comments. The chairman declined, saying he didn t want to enter into a debate. Senator Rockefeller then directed IOM to present me with a written criticism of my remarks. More than six years have passed. I ve seen nothing from the IOM. 

Haber had made some enemies in Karlsruhe, perhaps through his know-it-all style and obvious ambition. This came back to haunt him. The faculty commission declared that the scientific qualifications of Haber and Foerster were equal in merit, but voted three to two in favor of Foerster in view of his personal qualities. An expression of anti-Semitism No one will ever know. The university senate immediately accepted the commission s recommendation. 

Because when once an efficient national government is established, the best men in the country will not only consent to serve, but also will generally be appointed to manage it for altho town or county, or other contracted influence may place men in state assemblies, or Senates, or courts of justice, or executive departments yet more general and extensive reputation for talents and other qualifications, will be necessary to recommend men to offices under the national government — especially as it will have the widest field for choice, and never experience that want of proper persons, which is not uncommon in some of the States. Hence it will result, that the administration, the political counsels, and the judicial decisions of the national Government will be more wise, systematical and judicious, than those of individual States, and consequently more satisfactory with respect to other nations, as well as more safe with respect to us. 

Having examined the constitution of the House of Representatives, and answered such of the objections against it as seemed to merit notice, I enter next on the examination of the Senate. The heads into which this member of the government may be considered, are I. the qualifications of senators. II. the appointment of them by the state legislatures. III. the equality of representation in the Senate. IV. the number of senators, and... 

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States. 

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.
