The preference for melt spinning is very strong. Attempts have therefore been made to make solution-spun polymers melt-spinnable. For example, small amounts of solvent/plastidzer can make acrylics melt-processable. Cellulose triacetate can be melt-spun if the residence time is held very short. These attempts have not led to commercial processes, however.
