Selection of lime kilns

The selection of a lime kiln for a particular installation is a complex process [16.53]. The following paragraphs can, at best, provide an initial check list on which to build. [Pg.180]

A starting point is the characteristics of the limestone. Its particle size, coupled with the strength of the limestone/lime and their calcination properties may limit the choice of kiln. [Pg.180]

The next step is to establish, as clearly as possible, the quality of the quicklime required, in terms of % CaCOa, sulfur, reactivity and other key parameters, as well as the lead grade in terms of particle size. The impact of the design of the quicklime processing plant on product quality should not be overlooked (see chapter 17). [Pg.180]

The availability and cost of suitable fuels is an important factor, which interacts with the choice of kiln. [Pg.180]

Other factors, such as planning constraints on height and the area available for the kiln installation (and for any future extensions) may also limit the choice of kiln. [Pg.180]
