Segregation of fines

The segregated fines may accumulate, forming layers and lenses in the fill, or may even dominate whole parts of the reclamation area. Fines typically settle in stiU water areas. The finer the grain size, the further away from the discharge point it will settle. [Pg.313]

Some considerations with regards to the management of the reclamation area can be made  [Pg.313]

Specifications are normally designed to ensure a well-mixed fill without unacceptable segregation of fines. This allows the fulfilment of density requirements whilst reducing the risk of liquefaction and/or intolerable deformations and settlements. Specifications for the granular composition of hydraulic fill generally comprise ... [Pg.420]

Segregation of fines cannot always be avoided in practice and this may also occur during the deposition process on site. It is therefore necessary to also take samples on the reclamation itself... [Pg.421]
