A second ketoheptose was found soon thereafter it occurs in the free state in the herbaceous perennial Sedum spectabile Bor. and it was named sedoheptose, which later became sedoheptulose. Its reduction by sodium amalgam yielded two crystalline heptitols, the identification of which was finally established by Ettel, after one of them had been found to... [Pg.12]

C7H,40, Mr 210.18, heptoketose, mp. 100-102°C, [a][, -f2.5° (H2O). S. occurs in many plants, especially Sedum spectabile (Crassulaceae). S. plays an important role as intermediate product (S. 7-phosphate) in the Calvin cycle of photosynthesis. [Pg.578]

Occurs in the common herbaceous perennial Sedum spectabile and probably present as a photosynthesis intermed. in all planta Formed post mortem in mammalian tissues. [Pg.607]

Occurrence. Sedoheptulose was found originally in Sedum spectabile, Bor, a common, herbaceous, perennial plant used for decorative purposes (121). It has since been detected in many of the succulent plants, and, indeed, as an intermediate of photosynthesis, it may be present to some extent in all green plants. [Pg.102]

Of the Sedum species, S. confusum, S. pachyphyllum, S. rubrotinctum, and S, spectabile were shown by Holdsworth (1971) to have CAM, and S. telephium and S. telephoides were studied by Rouhani et al. (1973). Sedum praealtum (Fig. 1.7) was shown to have a distinct diurnal fluctuation of organic acids by Wood (1952). In Sedum acre CAM can be induced by stress (Kluge, 1977 b). [Pg.10]
