To use the bomb, the vessel A is set in an upright position and charged with reactants and solvent B is then pushed home into A with the valve F open and the securing collar D is screwed down hand-tight.t The vessel is evacuated with a vacuum pump attached to the nozzle of F, the valve is closed and the vacuum line removed. The bomb is then positioned behind adequate safety shielding, preferably in an isolated position, and heated in an oil bath or preferably by an electrical heating tape wound around the barrel A. [Pg.98]

The isolation process deserves special consideration (Fig. 10.4). Here, isolation refers to the secure containment of any hazards so that technicians can work on the isolated plant in safety. However, the process of isolation has a dual role not only does the isolation ensure the safety of the technicians, it also acts to ensure that the plant cannot be returned to operational status until the technicians have completed their work, and the work has been inspected and deemed ready for return to service. The isolation process ensures that all hazards are securely separated from the work to be done - this includes electrical systems, high-pressure fluid systems, and any sources of toxic or inflammable material. Any residual high pressure or high voltage must be vented or earthed. Valves are locked shut. [Pg.158]

Suitable means should be available for cutting off the supply to any electrical equipment and the isolation of any electrical equipment where necessary to prevent danger. In this context, isolation means the disconnection and separation of the electrical equipment from every source of electrical energy in such a way that this is secure and inadvertent reconnection is prevented. [Pg.378]
