Search blind

Search for fistula, large or multiple small intestinal diverticula, and an enlarged surgical blind loop (X-ray) or confined segment of intestine... 

Figure 8 plates are friendlier than slip plates (blinds) as their position is apparent at a glance. If slip plates are used, their projecting tags should be readily visible, even when the line is insulated. In addition, spectacle plates are easier to fit than slip plates, if the piping is rigid, and are always available on the job. It is not necessary to search for one, as with slip plates. 

The blind snake Leptotyphlops dulcis is a specialized burrower that feeds on termites and ant brood. It follows the ant pheromone trails to find its prey (Section 12.1). when attacked by ants, this snake tilts its scales individually so that the skin appears silvery. While it writhes, it covers itself with feces and a clear viscous fluid, discharged from the anus. It may also assume a stationary coiled position. when it resumes searching and feeding, it is no longer attacked by ants. The effect lasts from 3 to 30 minutes (Gehlbach etal., 1968). Here a predatory species protects itself from the defensive actions of its prey. 

Buspirone This has been an agent in search of a use. As with pindolol, most initial reports were open label. The only double-blind, placebo-controlled study did not support the usefulness of buspirone augmentation however, the placebo response in patients with alleged treatment refractory depression was 47% ( 382). Generally, the dose of buspirone as an augmentation strategy has been 5 to 15 mg twice a day. 

Most studies in children and adolescents have been conducted with neuroleptics. A computerized literature search for the period 1974 to 1999 identified only five double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials that investigated the use of atypical antipsychotic medications in children and adolescents ( 166, 167). These studies involved a total of 105 patients. Numerous open-label and case series were also found. 

The nature of your intentions towards making yourself more aware can be critical. With a positive Intent you will be active in picking up clues, searching out what you need to find. With an indifferent or half-hearted Intent you risk inadequately briefing yourself about possibilities and pitfalls. A negative approach, or searching without an open mind, and you risk blinding yourself to essential information, which you may deny or block off from your consciousness. 

Nipple search pheromones. Females of many mammals give birth to poorly developed young, which often are blind and have difficulty finding the mother s teats. In at least one of these instances, the rabbit is an example (below), where the mother releases chemicals to guide this process. 

The dumbest of these search methods by some distance is one in which colours are chosen for matching completely at random. In a random search (Fig. 2a) a colour is chosen blindly from the wheel for comparison with the paint chip. If the colours match, the search is over, but if there is no match, another colour is chosen at random and the process is repeated. This kind of search has almost no merit beyond simplicity. Even in the small search space of this problem it is inefficient, while for large spaces the probability of success falls to near zero. Furthermore, the search may revisit points it has already checked, which is unproductive. (This is avoided in a TABU search, in which a tally is kept of points previously visited, but maintaining a TABU list adds computational overhead which becomes increasingly onerous as the search progresses and cannot pretend to rescue what is a very poor method.)... 

So, multiple MD is a good tool to assess the stability of conformers short biomolecules (this was also seen for the related peptide Tyr-Thr-Gly-Pro [50]). Due to the long length of the equilibration phase of a biomolecular system in aqueous solution, multiple MD simulations cannot be used in a blind systematic manner on a large ensemble of conformations. But it is very informative on a selected set of conformers, which have been derived by knowledge based conformational searches. The limit of the multiple simulation size in explicit water is about 10 conformers. Database searches seen to be a very good tool to derive low energy conformers all the conformations found in the structural database were found to be at least 1% populated in the 33.6 ns of simulation. 

Evolutionary optimization then is not just a blind stochastic trial-and-error search for a better adapted mutant but rather follows an inherent logic ...
