Seals, mechanical face-type

Mechanical Face Seals This type of seal forms a running seal between flat precision-finished surfaces. It is an excellent seal against leakages. The seahng surfaces are planes perpendicular to the rotating shaft, and the forces that hold the contact faces are parallel to the shaft axis. For a seal to function properly, there are four sealing points ... [Pg.940]

The shaft seal assembly consists of two face-type, mechanical seals in series, with controlled leakage bypass to provide the same pressure differential across each seal. The seal assembly is designed for 2500 psi differential and to reduce the leakage pressure from Reactor Coolant System pressure to the volume... [Pg.130]

When starting equipment with mechanical seals, make sure the seal faces are immersed in liquid from the beginning so they will not be damaged from dry operation. The following recommendations for seal startup apply to most types of seal installations and will improve seal life if followed ... [Pg.953]

Cellular solids are a class of materials with low densities and novel physical, mechanical, thermal, electrical, and acoustic properties. Low-density cellular metals can feature a wide variety of topologies to include open-cell foam, closed-cell foam, hollow-sphere foam, periodic/optimized truss structures, and honeycomb. Metallic foams consist of air dispersed in a solid matrix, similar to polymer foams such as polystyrene or food foams such as whipped cream. Closed-cell foams feature solid faces such that each cell is independently sealed from its neighboring cells, whereas open-cell foams (also known as porous metals, metal sponges and truss-type materials) do not contain cell walls they only have cell edges. Hollow-sphere foams consist of an assembly of individual hollow spheres. [Pg.419]

Change the type of mechanical seal (not so complex as the previous) and provide a minimum stock to face possible failures avoiding the time lost to contact the suppher and to wait for equipment delivery ... [Pg.570]

The housing elements, rotor, and stator are of spheroidal graphite iron or of material that is resistant to cavitation and corrosion. The shaft is of high-quality, heat-treatable steel and the shaft extensions are normally finished to DIN standards although other arrangements are possible. Oil is used as a lubricant for the bearings and radial-lip-type shaft seals or labyrinth seals are normally fitted. Mechanical end-face seals can be provided. [Pg.115]
