Screw venting

For ASA/PVC blends (Geloy ), single screw vented extmders are recommended with L/D = 24, and compression ratio = 2.1-2.5. PVC degrades rapidly, thus residence time at 200°C should never exceed 1 min. For normal processing at temperamres well below 200°C, residence time should not exceed 5 min. 

Extruder thermoplastics. Extruders are polymer mixers or reactors that push molten polymer through a die. The die configuration is chosen to produce blown film, coatings, sheets, monofilaments, coatings for wire and cable, cast film or special shapes like siding, downspouts. Three general types single screw, vented and twin screw. 

Most single screw vented extruders have two stages (Fig. 2-11) a few... 

Vented screw n. A two-stage screw with a screw vent in the decompression zone, permitting volatiles to escape through the screw core. 

The above dr5dng instructions apply to extrusion grades. Single-screw, vented extruders are recommended (L/D = 24 l)with2.1-2.5 1 compression ratio. Melt temperature 180-195°C. 

With some modifications, a model of single-screw vented extruders can also be developed. We will present here a slightly extended version of the treatment by Roberts [49] and Biesenberger and Sebastian [50]. Fundamental studies on fluid mechanics and mass transfer without reaction are reported in Refs. 51 and 52.
