Screening of Microorganisms Producing Optically Active 1,3-BDO from the Racemate 

Preparation of (R)- and (S)-1,3-BDO by the Same Strain or from the Same Material 

lactis IFO 1267 produced (R)-l,3-BDO with an ee of 93% from 4H2B and (S)-1,3-BDO with an ee of 99% from the racemate. C. parapsilosis IFO 1396, on the other hand, produced (S)-l,3-BDO with an ee of 94% from 4H2B and (R)-l,3-BDO with an ee of 97% from the racemate. The methods of preparation of (R)-and (S)-l,3-BDO are illustrated by the same strain or from the same material (Fig. 5).
