Scorpionate ligands group 14 complexes

These lithium derivatives were found to be excellent reagents for the introduction of the new amidinate scorpionate ligands into Group 4 metal complexes, and a series of neutral titanium and zirconium complexes were prepared according to Scheme 189 and fully characterized.

Similar yields, under the same conditions, were obtained for the water-soluble Fe(II) complexes 19-21 bearing the C-functionalized tris(pyrazolyl)methane HOCH2C(pz)3 (Table 22.1, [5e]). The hydroxo group of the scorpionate ligand imparts hydrosolubility that allows them to operate also in pure aqueous media (without any organic solvent, although less effectively). 

In 1969, Trofimenko reported the first organometallic compounds to contain the tris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)hydroborate ligand (Tp ) these included salts of the group 6 tricarbonyl anions, [Tp M(CO)3] (M = Cr, Mo, W). Since then the coordination and organometallic chemistry of scorpionate ligands has developed into an important subdiscipline of inorganic chemistry.
