A. Janson and E. Scholtz, in W. Eorst, ed., Ullmanns Emyklopddie Technischen Chemie, 3rd ed., Vol. 15, Urban Schwartzenberg, Mtnchen-Bedin, Germany, 1964, pp. 480—488. [Pg.159]

Chondrodine, CigHji04N, amorphous, m.p. 218-20°, [a]n — 75 (EtOH). The hydrochloride, B. HCl, m.p. 274-5°, occurs in yellow leaflets the picrate, m.p. 193-4°, is a crystalline powder, and the picrolonate m.p. 185-6°, forms greenish-yellow needles. The alkaloid contains e methoxyl and a methylimino-group, and yields a crystalline dibenzoy derivative, m.p. 295°. The diethyl ether hydrochloride, m.p. 258°, forms yellow needles (Scholtz, 1911). [Pg.364]

This alkaloid, isolated by Faltis (1912, ef. Scholtz, 1913), was first assigned... [Pg.365]

Bebeerine, CjjHjgOjNj. This alkaloid has been described imder various names, pelosine, chondrodendrine, chondodendrine and curine (Z-form) whose origin is described elsewhere (pp. 363 and 374). It crystallises with one molecule of benzene, m.p. 161°, or 213° (solvent-free) or from methyl alcohol, m.p. 214°, and has [ajn 298° (EtOH) for the d- or Z-form (Scholtz ). Spath et recorded m.p. 221-221-5° (vac.) for both forms and + 332° and — 328° for the d- and Z-forms, in pyridine. [Pg.367]

It was clearly established by Scholtz that the empirical formula, CjgHjjOaN, represented the composition of bebeerine, that on this basis the alkaloid contained one hydroxyl, one methoxyl and one methylimino group and that its behaviour with acylating agents indicated the presence of a methyltetrahydroisoquinoline nucleus. These results were confirmed... [Pg.367]

Translated by Kjell Hellesoe 1985. From Friedrich Roth-Scholtz, Deutsches theatrum chemicum, Ntirnberg Adam Jonathan Felsecker, 1731. [Pg.43]

The measurements of chain stiffness of denatured proteins are made in the presence of a strong denaturant, such as 8 M urea or 6 M GdmCl, in which peptide H-bonds are weak and peptide helices unfold (Scholtz et al., 1995 Smith and Scholtz, 1996), and the possible presence of (/-helices or /3-hairpins is not an issue in these denaturants. The careful and thorough measurements of intrinsic viscosities made by Tanford and co-workers (1968), discussed above, yield a substantially lower estimate for chain stiffness than the work of Flory and co-workers. A comparison is made by Tanford (1968) between the proportionality coefficient... [Pg.386]
