Saturated Cyclic Compounds of Sulphur, Selenium, and Tellurium

The organization of this chapter follows the lines of previous volumes, with the exception that a subsection on sulphur-containing macrocycles has been omitted. 

A number of reviews on several aspects of sulphur chemistry and comprehensive books on general organic chemistry include material pertinent to this Report Among these are various chapters of recent volumes of a well-known reference book and of a new comprehensive book on Organic Chemistry. A review on n.m.r. data of non-aromatic heterocyclic compounds includes numerous data on saturated sulphur heterocycles. The synthesis of saturated heterocyclic rings has been summarized. Conformations of five-membered rings have been reviewed in detail. New tellurium heterocyclic chemistry has been summarized.  

2 Thiolans, Thians, Thiepans, Thiocans, and their Oxides, Dioxides, and Imides 

Synthesis.—A new general synthesis of c substituted three- to nine-membered cyclic sulphides (2) has been developed cyclization, with NaOH, of the pyridinium salts (1), prepared by the reaction of o,cu-dihalogenoalkanes with -methyl-(lif)-pyridine-2-thione, afforded the cyclic sulphides (2).
