Saponins of Other Panax spp

Several Panax species other than Ginseng occur in the Northern hemisphere from the Eastern Himalayas onward through China and Japan to North America. These Panax species can be divided into two groups, depending on the shape of the underground parts. [Pg.43]

Group A contains carrot-like roots and consists of the following species. [Pg.43]

quinquefolium L. (American Ginseng, wild and cultivated in North America) [Pg.43]

trifolius L. (ground-nut or dwarf Ginseng, wild in North America) [Pg.43]

notoginseng (Burk.) F. H. Chen (Chinese name Sanchi-Ginseng or Tienchi, cultivated in Yunnan, China but the locality of the wild specimen is still obscure.) [Pg.43]
