Failure of the metal can be the most important effect of a corrosive water, but other eff ts may arise from small concentrations of metallic ion produced by corrosion. A natural water passed through a lead pipe may contain a toxic concentration of that metal with copper there is a greater tolerance from the toxicity point of view but staining of fabrics and sanitary fittings may be objectionable. With iron, similarly, discoloration of the water may be unpleasant and may cause damage to materials being processed. [Pg.347]

The sanitary product must meet a number of requirements, most important here are dimensions and performance. The requirements as far as dimensions are concerned will be obvious. The products must fit certain, often small, spaces and they must be connected to standard service pipes and drains. [Pg.196]

Plastic pipe and fittings, particularly PVC-P and to some extent PE, are overwhelmingly being used in construction as a big competitor of metallics. APME s report [52] demonstrates that plastics use in gas, sewage and water piping has tripled in the EU. Health hazards in PVC-P pipes and fittings, are subject to emission of the plasticisers used. Polyacetals are also used for sanitary ware and plumbing. [Pg.165]

A wide range of membrane equipment designs are available for cell recovery and other applications at both pilot and production scale. The inherent containment features vary widely. Some systems only make use of flexible plastic pipe connected by Jubilee clip type fittings. IDF and Triclover sanitary connections are found on devices with a higher degree of engineering. [Pg.154]
