Bengt Samuelsson (1934-) was born in Halmstad, Sweden, and received both Ph.D. (1960) anti M.D. (19611 degrees from the Karolinska Institute, where he worked with Sune Bergstrom. He remained at the Karolinska Institute as professor and shared the 1982 Nobel Prize in medicine with Bergstrom and John R. Vane. 

Aspirin is the most widely used pain reliever and antiinflammatory agent in the world, yet its mechanism of action remained unknown until the 1970s. John Vane, Bengt Samuelsson, and Sune Bergstrom shared the 1982 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for unraveling the details of its mechanism.
