Saliva testosterone

A sensitive enzyme-immunoassay for plasma or saliva testosterone uses testosterone-lla-hemisuccinate antiserum, bound to cellulose to provide a solid phase for convenient separation. Testosterone-horseradish peroxidase conjugate was employed as the label.Another enzyme-immunoassay for testosterone employs a testosterone-3-(0-carboxymethyloxime)-pencillinase conjugate for competitive binding to the testosterone antiserum. 21-Amino-ll/3,17o -dihydroxypregn-4-ene-3,20-dione ( Cortisol 21-amine ) linked to alkaline phosphatase has been used ° in an effective enzyme-immunoassay for cortisol. [Pg.211]

In general most steroids of clinical interest can be measured in saliva. For some steroids, such as cortisol, estriol, and progesterone, the measurement of the sahvary concentration appears to be a reliable indicator of the free concentration in plasma. For others (e.g., testosterone, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, estradiol, and aldosterone) the chnical usefulness of salivary measurements has not yet been fully established. [Pg.2034]

Salivary testosterone concentration correlates with free testosterone concentrations in plasma and has been advocated as an indicator of androgen status. In a multicenter evaluation that examined nine different laboratories using various RIA methods with and without extraction, good correlation was found between laboratories despite widely varying methods. Reference intervals of 4 to 14ng/dL and 2 to 6ng/dL have been reported for testosterone in saliva of men. Measurement of salivary testosterone in women has been less reliable, with no consensus on salivary concentrations available. However, one commer-... [Pg.2131]

An enzyme-immunoassay for testosterone in female plasma and saliva uses lla-hydroxytestosterone 11-hydrogen succinate-horseradish peroxidase conjugate as enzyme label, and p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid to provide a fluorimetric end-point . A solid-phase enzyme-immunoassay has been described for 19-norethisterone, based upon the lla-hydrogen succinoyloxy derivative. ... [Pg.185]
