Salicylic acid, 5-Sulfo

Salicyl-sdure, /. salicylic acid, -streupulver, n. salicylated talc, -sulfonsaure, /. sulfo-salicylic acid, -talg, m. salicylated tallow, -ursaure, /. salicyluric acid, -watte, /, salicylic cotton. [Pg.376]

Other reported syntheses include the Reimer-Tiemann reaction, in which carbon tetrachloride is condensed with phenol in the presence of potassium hydroxide. A mixture of the ortho- and para-isomers is obtained the para-isomer predominates. -Hydroxybenzoic acid can be synthesized from phenol, carbon monoxide, and an alkali carbonate (52). It can also be obtained by heating alkali salts of -cresol at high temperatures (260—270°C) over metallic oxides, eg, lead dioxide, manganese dioxide, iron oxide, or copper oxide, or with mixed alkali and a copper catalyst (53). Heating potassium salicylate at 240°C for 1—1.5 h results in a 70—80% yield of -hydroxybenzoic acid (54). When the dipotassium salt of salicylic acid is heated in an atmosphere of carbon dioxide, an almost complete conversion to -hydroxybenzoic acid results. They>-aminobenzoic acid can be converted to the diazo acid with nitrous acid followed by hydrolysis. Finally, the sulfo- and halogenobenzoic acids can be fused with alkali. [Pg.292]

To make the protein bands visible you are going to forst fix them and then stain them with Coomassie brilliant blue. Use a syringe and add 20% sulfo-salicylic acid to each gel test tube until it covers the small pore gel. [Pg.652]

Bromic acid reacts with molybdophosphoric acid in the presence of sulfo-salicylic acid to form molybdenum blue. This behavior is the basis of a selective spot test for bromates. [Pg.152]

Gregory and Feldstein (94) developed an ion-paired, reversed-phase HPLC method for individual Be vitamers extracted with sulphosalicylic acid from different foods. Using a ternary solvent program, elution of nutritionally active Be vitamers from the analytical column was complete within 30 min. PLP was determined as its hydroxysulfonate derivative, following postcolumn introduction of a buffered solution of sodium bisulfite. This method was found suitable for vitamin Be analysis in foods of both plant and animal origin. Recoveries for PLP and PL from pork loin were <90% it was suggested that these vitamers were not completely released from muscle proteins, even in the presence of 5% sulfo-salicylic acid. [Pg.456]

The kinetics of the reaction of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) with salicylic acid, and of the latter metal with 5-chloro-, 5-sulfo-, and 5-nitrosalicylic acids (H2L) have been interpreted in terms of there being two reactive metal species, the normal ion Maq and the deprotonated species MOH. While MOH reacts with rates which are consistent with the Id mechanism (and the bound OH" ligand produces no remarkable labilization of the metal-bound waters), the unhydrolyzed cations show rates which are two to three orders of magnitude below the normal values. This is thought to be attributable to the need to break the internal hydrogen bond in the active form of the ligand, HL". [Pg.200]

The 1 1 dipyridyl-Cu(II) chelate was found to have no catalytic activity toward the hydrolysis of [II] and [III], This result is interpreted as being due to the formation of a mixed ligand chelate compound in which the carboxylate group is bound to the metal ion and is thus prevented from attacking the phosphate group, A similar interpretation is offered for the failure of the 1 1 Cu( II)-N-hydroxyethylethylenediamine chelate to show catalytic activity. However, the 1 1 vanadyl complexes of 3,5-disulfopyrocatechol, 5-sulfo--8-hydroxyquinoline, and 5-sulfosalicylic acid which do not form stable mixed ligand chelates with salicyl phosphate, were found to have considerable catalytic activity. [Pg.307]
