Safety concerns corrosion monitoring

Traditional inspection methods have known limitations (such as lack of accessibility to difficult- to-reach areas), can involve personnel safety concerns, and are not always reliable (such as operational inaccuracies due to scale formation, noise, or vibration) all of these add a measure of uncertainty to the effectiveness of the inspection and raise concern about the possibility of undetected corrosion problems in areas that cannot be inspected. For a comparison of monitoring techniques, see Table 3.1. [Pg.101]

H2S is responsible for most of the odor problems assoeiated with brewing and food processing wastewater treatment. Heavier than air, colorless, corrosive, and extremely toxic, it raises serious woikplace health and safety concerns [109], HjS was measured directly by lAMS, which yielded a cahbiation curve with 0.996 R ) and a detection hmit of 0.05 ppm, while the limit of detection (LOD) by conventional MS with El was 100 ppm, due to interference by the isotope. These results demonstrate the possibility not only of measirring odors but also of monitoring the quahty control of irrdoors, foods, industrial fadhties, arrd so orr. [Pg.152]

Although this voltage was not a concern for safety, it did have the potential to corrode the fence quickly in those areas. Monitoring continues but shows no significant corrosion of the fence posts. [Pg.643]
