Saddle block The injection is given into the lower end of the spinal column to block the perineal area. 

Saddle block is a variation of spinal anaesthesia where the injection is made into the lower part of the subarachnoid space. The drug normally settles in the lower part of the dural space. It is used in obstetrics and for suigery in the perineal region. 

The saddle block is never used during childbirth. 

Very litde tendency or ability to nest and block areas of bed. Gives fairly uniform bed. Higher flooding limits and lower pressure drop than Raschig rings or fieri saddles lower HTU values for most common. systems. Easier to break in bed than Raschig rings, as ceramic. 

In general the dumped saddle type packing should give less blocking to support openings than ring type.
