S,S,S-tributyl phosphorotrithioate (1), was introduced in 1956 by the Chemagro Co. under the trade mark Defoliant . 

The trithioite ester is stable in air but decomposes above 100°. It is stable towards water and acids but is rapidly decomposed by alkali. Oxidation with 3% hydrogen peroxide in acetic acid gives 5,5,5,-tributyl phosphorotrithioate (yield 58%, bp 162-164°/1 torr. (lit.s bp 166.5°/1 torr)).
