Nitrous oxide ruthenium complex

Nitric oxide and iron nitrosyl complexes have been observed in the reduction of nitrite by bacterial nitrite reductases, which contain iron chlorin or iron isobac-terichlorin [151]. A specific nitric oxide reductase also exists to convert NO to nitrous oxide [9]. Iron complexes of chlorins, isobacteriochlorins, and porphyrins, as well as ruthenium and osmium polypyridines, and cobalt and nickel... [Pg.175]

Many ruthenium nitrosyl complexes are well characterized and appear to act as NO+ carriers. For example the bipyridyl complex [Ru(bipy)2(NO)Cl] + reacts with azide ion to give the aquo complex, nitrogen and nitrous oxide... [Pg.404]

A ruthenium porphyrin complex immobilized in a polymer can be used for catalytic epoxidation with 2,6-dichloropyridine N-oxide [112], Nitrous oxide (N2O) can be also used as oxidant for the epoxidation of trisubstituted olefins in the presence of ruthenium porphyrin catalyst [113], Asymmetric epoxidations have been reported using chiral ruthenium porphyrin complexes 35 [114], 36 [115], and 37 [116] (Eq. 3.62). [Pg.73]

Nitrous oxide is produced as a byproduct in multimillion Ib/year quantities in nylon manufacture worldwide. Currently, there is a great interest toward the utilization of NjO due to the environmentally hazardous nature of this gas with respect to the greenhouse effect and ozone layer depletion. In addition to their ability to utilize dioxygen for catalytic hydrocarbon oxidations, ruthenium porphyrins have been shown to activate nitrous oxide which is an extremely inert molecule and a poor ligand. Groves and Roman have found that N O reacted with Ru"(TMP)(THF)2 in toluene to produce Ru (TMP)(0)2 . trans-dioxoRu(VI) complex can in turn epoxidize a suitable substrate such as tra/js-p-methyl styrene. This system was subsequently shown to be catalytic under appropriate conditions . [Pg.31]

For phase-modulation measurements we have chosen tiis(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline)ruthenium(II) perchlorate ([Ru(Ph2phn)3] ), which is highly sensitive to oxygen. This complex in silicon is also rather specific. The physiologically and medically important gases, CO2, nitrous oxide, cyclopropane,... [Pg.200]
