Russia perception

While foreign coimtries have cooperated with Russia in the sphere of nuclear submarine dismantlement for a decade, and have learned a great deal during that time, this cooperation is still not as successful as it could be. In part, this appears to be caused by a continued lack of detailed information, difficulties in project coordination and planning, and political hurdles in partner countries resulting from a popular perception that programs are running into unforeseen hmdles. [Pg.239]

See Orlando Figes s remarkably perceptive and detailed book. Peasant Russia, Civil War The Volga Countryside in Revolution, 1917-1921 (Oxford Clarendon Press, 1989). Even near revolutions create a similar vacuum. Following the 1905 revolution, it took the czarist government nearly two years to reassert its control over the countryside. [Pg.400]

An enormous amount of work has been done in Russia on perchlorate coordination complexes. A very interesting initiative to find green primary explosives among the cobalt perchlorate complexes has been reported by Ilyushin et al. [14]. The differences in perception of toxicity in various parts of the world make direct comparison misleading. Perchlorates, which are not seen as a problem in many countries, are considered unsuitable from the long-term perspective in the USA [10]. [Pg.9]

According to studies conducted by Boeing in the United States and by aviation authorities in Russia, more than one-half of jet aircraft accidents could have been avoided if the pilot had adhered to the safety rules. In response to these studies, an Ameriean researcher wished to determine why pilots do not follow the procedures. The findings led the author to conclude that non-compliance with the rules was not due to inadequate perception of the ensuing risk of accident, but rather was inspired by the motive to save time, money, or both (Huntzinger, 1994, 1998). [Pg.390]
