A second form of limestone is finely pulverized limestone for masonry cement. This form is achieved by intergrinding roughly equal parts of limestone and cement clinker in a bad mill to which an air-entraining agent is added. [Pg.177]

Colloid mills which are employed for dispersion or for emulsification fall into four main groups the hammer or turbine, the smooth-surface disk, the rough-surface type, and valve or orifice devices. [Pg.1864]

Wet-Process Cement Ball, tube, and compartment mills of essentially the same construction as for the dry process are used for grinding. Water or clay shp is added at the reed end of the initial grinder, together with the roughly proportioned amounts of limestone and other components. [Pg.1871]

Quantifying the effect of surface roughness or morphology is difficult, however. Surface preparations that provide different degrees of surface roughness also usually produce surfaces that have different oxide thicknesses and mechanical properties, different compositions, or different contaminant levels. The problem of separation of these variables was circumvented in a recent study [52] by using a modified microtome as a micro milling machine to produce repeatable, well-characterized micron-sized patterns on clad 2024-T3 aluminum adherends. Fig. 2 shows the sawtooth profile created by this process. [Pg.446]

Semi-finished products are first heated in a re-heat furnace until they are red hot (around 1200 C). On all types of mill the semi-finished products go first to a roughing stand. A stand is a collection of steel rolls (or drums) on which pressure can be applied to squeeze the hot steel passing through them, and arranged so as to form the steel into the required shape. The roughing stand is the first part of the rolling mill. The large semi-finished product is often passed... [Pg.117]

Blooms and billets are used to make long products. After leaving the roughing stand, the piece of steel passes through a succession of stands which do not just reduce the size of the steel, but also change its shape. In a universal mill, all... [Pg.118]
