The vibration-rotation gas-phase Raman spectrum of C3 O2 was obtained for the first time by Smith and Barrett using a 2-watt argon-ion laser. The results of this experiment gave new information about the bonding potential function for the central carbon bonding fundamental. [Pg.45]

This corresponds de facto to a rotational gas with the maximum of entropy, because in this idealized model it is supposed that rotation covers isoenergetic angular positions with equal probability. [Pg.65]

Example 3.3 Consider a rotating gas flow in a cylindrical chamber with a small particle injected into the flow. Assume that the gas rotates as a rigid body with a constant angular velocity co and the only driving force is the Stokes drag [Kriebel, 1961]. Initially, the relative particle velocity is normal to the flow. Develop the equations for the particle trajectory in this rotating flow and discuss the effect of particle sizes on the trajectory. [Pg.109]

The trajectories for different values of A and B are illustrated in Fig. E3.3. As expected, these trajectories are spirals which start from the injection point and end at the cylinder wall. The angular position of the particle lags behind the rotating gas by an angle 9, which is given by... [Pg.110]

For reactors of a larger diameter (e.g. more than 600 mm) it is more advisable to use a bundle of small tubes as heat exchangers. Such a distribution of heat exchange surfaces virtually does not inhibit fluidising and ensures that the heat is efficiently withdrawn from the whole surface of the apparatus. It should be also kept in mind that tube bundles allow one to select the reaction space and place rotating gas distribution devices between sections this considerably increases the coefficient of heat transfer and ensures a more uniform gas distribution in the reaction zone. [Pg.59]

Vertical CVD reactor systems with rotating gas feed over a stationary, resistance-heated plate are manufactured by Phoenix Materials Corporation, Phoenix (500 and 1500 series Vapor Deposition Systems). Units for processing either 26 or 70 5 cm wafers are available (Kern, 1975). [Pg.168]

Ten years later, in 1755, I. Kant proposed a rather modern theory, that of a rotating gas cloud that flattened into a disc which then somehow... [Pg.51]

A rotary-piston pump is an oil-sealed, positive-displacement vacuum pump. The oil both lubricates the pump and seals the discharge from the suction side of the pump. As the piston rotates, gas enters a chamber, as shown in Figure 5.2. Then, the inlet port closes, and the gas is compressed in the chamber until the discharge valve opens, exhausting the gas to the atmosphere. Possible contamination of the oil with condensable vapors, usually water, is a problem. One way condensation can be avoided is by reducing the partial pressure of the condensable gases by allowing air to leak into the cylinder, which is called a gas ballast. [Pg.192]

As Ihe inlet velocity is increased from very low values, the separation efficiency rapidly increases to a meximum in the 80-120 fl/s range. At higher velocities, the liquid on the wall can be re-entrained by gas shear into the rotating gas vortex, and the separation efficiency drops significantly. The design limitation should be on (he besis of gas shear which is proportkranl to pc - where pc is the gas density (in and V, is the inlet velocity (in ii/s) should be less than 1000. [Pg.135]

Interesting for applications is gliding arc stabilization in the reverse vortex (tornado) flow. This approach is opposite that of the conventional forward-vortex stabilization (Fig. 4-59a), where the swirl generator is placed upstream with respect to discharge and the rotating gas provides the walls with protection from the heat flux (Gutsol, 1997). Reverse... [Pg.207]
