Rotating rotation speed control

Basically the calendering process is used in the production of plastic films and sheets. It converts plastic into a melt and then passes the pastelike mass through roll nips of a series of heated and rotating speed-controlled rolls into webs of specific thickness and width. The web may be polished or embossed, either rigid or flexible (9). One of its sheets major worldwide markets is in credit cards. At the low cost side these lines can start a million. A line, probably the largest in the world... [Pg.523]

Most electronic equipment shares the television set s need for a number of differing voltages for the operation of individual components. This alone may be sufficient justification for the inclusion of a direct current to alternating current converter in fuel cell power systems. In addition, alternating current electric motors are more suitable in most applications. They tend to operate at a rotational speed controlled by the frequency of the current. If completely unloaded they speed up to this fixed velocity and accelerate no further. Many types of direct current motors, if operated unloaded, will continue to accelerate until they fail. A belt driven fan operated by an alternating current motor is undamaged by the failure of the belt. A direct current motor will require a special safety circuit to shut it down in case of belt failure. If the belt and the safety circuit both fail, the motor will speed up until it destroys itself. [Pg.120]

A major part of film, sheet, coating, pipe, profile, etc. lines involve windup rolls. They include winders, dancer rolls, lip rolls, spreader rolls, textured rolls, engraved rolls, and cooling rolls. All have the common feature that they are required to be extremely precise in all their operations and measurements. Their surface conditions include commercial grade mirror finishes, precision bearings and journals are used, and, most important, controlled variable rotating speed controls to ensure uniform product tension control. [Pg.34]

For tests of the assessment of the control quality of the turbine jet engine the simplified model of rotational speed control was built. It operates from both the input value to the controller delivered by the engine control lever ( w ) and input from disturbance z to the object (engine). It has been shown in Figure 1 [2, 9]... [Pg.138]

Transfer functions describing simplified model of the turbine jet engine rotational speed control system from Figure 1 in form of dependences (1) and (2) are presented underneath as formulas (4) from input... [Pg.138]

Controlled Stress Viscometer. Most rotational viscometers operate by controlling the rotational speed and, therefore, the shear rate. The shear stress varies uncontrollably as the viscosity changes. Often, before the stmcture is determined by viscosity measurement, it is destroyed by the shearing action. Yield behavior is difficult to measure. In addition, many flow processes, such as flow under gravity, settling, and film leveling, are stress-driven rather than rate-driven. [Pg.187]

A turbine flowmeter consists of a straight flow tube containing a turbine which is free to rotate on a shaft supported by one or more bearings and located on the centerline of the tube. Means are provided for magnetic detection of the rotational speed, which is proportional to the volumetric flow rate. Its use is generally restric ted to clean, noncorrosive fluids. Additional information on construction, operation, range, and accuracy can be obtained from Holzbock (Instruments for Measurement and Control, 2d ed., Reinhold, New York, 1962, pp. 155-162). For performance characteristics of these meters with liquids, see Shafer,y. Basic Eng., 84,471-485 (December 1962) or May, Chem. Eng., 78(5), 105-108 (1971) and for the effect of density and Reynolds number when used in gas flowmetering, see Lee and Evans, y. Basic Eng., 82, 1043-1057 (December 1965). [Pg.888]

For field-oriented controls, a mathematical model of the machine is developed in terms of rotating field to represent its operating parameters such as /V 4, 7, and 0 and all parameters that can inlluence the performance of the machine. The actual operating quantities arc then computed in terms of rotating field and corrected to the required level through open- or closed-loop control schemes to achieve very precise speed control. To make the model similar to that lor a d.c. machine, equation (6.2) is further resolved into two components, one direct axis and the other quadrature axis, as di.sciis.sed later. Now it is possible to monitor and vary these components individually, as with a d.c. machine. With this phasor control we can now achieve a high dynamic performance and accuracy of speed control in an a.c. machine, similar to a separately excited d.c. machine. A d.c. machine provides extremely accurate speed control due to the independent controls of its field and armature currents. [Pg.106]

Compressors driven by steam mrbines, gas turbines, hot gas expanders, or variable speed electric motors usually employ variable rotation speed for capacity control. Generally, the surge limit slope varies witli rotation... [Pg.398]

There is usually more than one test method to determine a performance because each test has its own behavior and meaning. As an example there are different tests used to determine the abrasion resistance of materials. There is the popular Taber abrasion test. It determines the weight loss of a plastic or other material after it is subjected to abrasion for a prescribed number of the abrader disk rotations (usually 1000). The abrader consists of an idling abrasive speed controlled rotating wheel with the load applied to the wheel. The abrasive action on the circular specimen is subjected to a rotary motion. [Pg.297]
