In the territory of the Czech Repnblic, the origins of rootstock breeding date back to the end of the nineteenth centnry. F. Schwarzmann, the director of the chatean in Bzenec in Moravia was an important personality in the field of breeding and selection of rootstocks in the Czech Repnblic. M9 CLONE ROOTSTOCKS. Much breeding work at present is concentrated on the M9 rootstock. These days there is a range of M9 selections exhibiting different behaviour in the nursery (root system, growth, stoolbed performance, etc.). [Pg.40]

When breeding and selecting rootstocks for certain site conditions and localities, not only the resistance to phylloxera bnt also some other properties are of great importance.
