Rodrun

Poly(p-hydroxybenzoate) (PHB)-poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), P(HB80-ET20) (Rodrun 5000) or P(HB60-ET40) (Rodrun 3000) (Unitika Company, Japan)... [Pg.667]

The high tendency to homopolymerization of the 4-acetoxybenzoic acid relative to transesterification is responsible for the nonuniform distribution. In order to obtain copolymers with HBA units randomly distributed along the chains, the monomer 4-acetoxybenzoic acid may be added in portions rather than in a singla batch. Unitika (Suenaga and Okada, 1989) advanced the production process so that the HBA and PET moieties are uniformly distributed in the copolymers. With the advanced process the resins ( Rodrun LC-5000 ) showed almost 100% solubility in a hot (150 °C-160 °C) 50/50 mixed solvent of tetrachloroethane and phenol, while that produced by the old (Jackson and Kuhfuss, 1973) method has an insoluble residue of about 30 wt-%. The 13C-NMR spectra also showed that... [Pg.269]

Suppliers and commercial grades are shown in Table 16.7. Monomers and structural units used in commercial available LCPs have been sununarized in the literature. Vectra types are random copoly(ester)s based on HBA and 2-hydroxy-6-naphthoic acid or copoly(ester amide)s based on 4-aminophenol and TPA. Xydar types are fully aromatic poly(ester)s based on HBA, BP, and TPA. Neat poly(ethylene terephthalate), is not a LCP. However, by the introduction of HBA it becomes a LCP. The ethylene groups act as flexible spacers that reduce the nematic transition temperature. Commercial available types of this kind are X7G and Rodrun types. Tradenames appearing in the references are shown in Table 16.8. [Pg.542]

In 1985, thermoplastic LCP was introduced by Mitsubishi Kasei (registered name Novaccurate), Unitika (Rodrun) and Polyplastics (Vectra) in Japan. [Pg.273]

Studies with other LCPs, such as Vectra B950 (Hoechst Celanese) or Rodrun LC-3000 (Unitika), have shown qualitatively similar properties, but the level seems to depend a lot on the performance of the LCP. Hence, for example, the former leads to higher stiffness, but the latter allows the use of rather low processing temperature. Other flexible semirigid LCPs exhibiting a melting temperature closer to that of PP have been blended with PP as well [2, p.l38]. [Pg.311]

Methods and Materials - Rodrun LC-3000 p(ET/HBA) TLCP, [Unitika. Ltd of Japan] in 40 60% molar ratio, is tested for compatibility with Polycarbonate. Recent studies have shown this TLCP to be more random in nature than a previous p(ET/HBA) TLCP [3,24]. The influence of the more random form of p(ET/HBA) copolymer on its compatibility with polycarbonate is here investigated. [Pg.72]

Method and Materials. Bin-TLCP blends of Ar-TLCP Vectra RD-501 p(HBA/HNA/TA/HQ) with Rodrun p(ET/HBA) were produced with the following compositions 30/70, 50/50, 70/30 % wt. The LCP blocks in the binary blend are hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA) hydroxynaphthoic acid (HNA) terephthalic acid(TA) hydroquinone (HQ) ethyleneterephthalate (ET). The Bin-TLCP blend of 70/30 RD-501/Rodrun (abbreviated " RDRR in the figures), was then used in ternary... [Pg.74]

Materials. Three thermotropic LCPs have been used in our studies. Vectra A900, an aromatic copolyester of 1,4-hydroxybenzoic acid and 2,6-hydroxynaphthoic acid, and Vectra B950, a copolymer of 2,6-hydroxynaphthoic acid, 4-aminophenol and terephthalic acid, were supplied from the Hoechst Celanese Corporation. Both LCPs possess a melt temperature of 280 C. Rodrun LC3000, supplied by Unitika, is a copolymer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and 1,4-hydroxybenzoic acid, and possesses a melt temperature of 220 C. [Pg.100]
