The rock is dissolved by hydrochloric acid. The insoluble residue amounts to a small percentage of the rock feed and consists mainly of silica, silicates, and insoluble organic matter. The insoluble matter can be separated from the dissolution liquor by filtration, followed by washing of the cake or by sedimentation in a thickener, followed by countercurrent decantation washing of the sediment. The choice of the proper method of separating solids depends on the character of the insoluble residue arxi on economic consideralions. The ckssolution liquor is fed to the subsequent section. [Pg.346]
