Rock Dust for Mines

A significant tonnage of pulverised limestone is used in mines, primarily to dilute coal dust and thereby to reduce the explosion risk. A typical specification is for a product which is less than 1 mm, with 70 % less than 75 pm [12.1]. The content of silica and combustible matter should be low. The dust is sprayed, generally as a dust, but also as a slurry over the roof, walls and floor of the mine. [Pg.108]

Limestone dust is also used in metallic mines to control the airborne concentrations of silica and heavy metals [12.1]. [Pg.108]
