Rings and circuits

A complication that may arise is that the shortest path from link a to link b has a shortcut through link c which leads back to the node. Obviously, this path is not a fundamental ring since it can be divided into two smaller rings. To [Pg.61]

Brush lifting and short-circuiting devices can be employed for motors required to run continuously for a long period to minimize wear and tear of slip-rings and brushes. However, when speed control is required or switching operations are frequent, continuous contact brush gear assembly must be employed. [Pg.235]

An important principle is that security must be built in depth - otherwise known as defense in depth. In this context, it may be helpful to think of security as a set of concentric rings, where the target is located at the center. Each ring represents a level of physical protection (perimeter fence, building shell, security case) but the number of rings and security resistance will vary relative to the risk. The spaces between the rings may represent other defensive measures such as closed-circuit television (CCTV), security lighting, intruder alarm systems, etc. [Pg.166]

With this technique the motor has a wound rotor brought out to slip rings and an external resistance is connected into the rotor circuit. This resistance usually consists of a series of resistor banks, which are switched out progressively in a number of steps as the motor accelerates. The number and rating of each step is chosen so that starting current and motor torque are within requirements. [Pg.224]

Branch lines transfer oil from a ring main circuit to the oil-burning equipment. Where a residual oil fuel is to be used, there will be some cooling of the oil immediately adjacent to the pipe surfaces and this will show as a small increase in viscosity. To keep this variation to a minimum and so prevent any difficulties in atomization at the oil burner, care should be taken over the length and diameter of branch lines. Provision should always be made to isolate and drain branch lines. [Pg.258]

It can be expected that, in the future, other organic electronic devices and circuits, such as sensors [72], radio-frequency identification tags (RFIDs) [73], and ring oscillators [74] may be fabricated using dissipative structures. [Pg.197]

Fig. 13 Aromaticity analysis in free-base porphyrin (top), porphyrin dianion, and porphyrin complex (bottom) [37]. Bond lengths (in Angstroms) are averages obtained from X-ray structural data. Values in parentheses correspond to calculated geometries (B3LYP/6-31G, no substituents, M = Mg). HOMA indices were calculated from the average (calculated) bond lengths. The values inside the macrocyclic ring and outside the macrocycle correspond respectively to the inner cross ([16]annulene circuit) and the complete macrocycle. NICS values (GIAO-RHF/6-31 + G ) were calculated at the points indicated with dots... Ions are formed by an electron beam offset at 1/2 r because ions cannot be excited at the center of the cell. This is one also to allow the largest possible cyclotron orbit between the z-axis and the ring electrode. The cyclotron mode of the ions is excited across the ring and end caps, and image currents are detected by using a balanced bridge circuit (5.2). [Pg.48]
