Ring drier

Ring driers, which are usually smaller also use clean, dry, hot air. The damp product is fed into the stream of hot air and as it passes through a specially designed circular manifold, the heavier wet particles are thrown out and recirculated and the drier particles are blown into the bag filter and discharge hopper. Both the driers enable drying to be achieved with the minimum of handling and risk of contamination.

In a ring-plate turbo-dryer, the product flows in a manner similar to the turbo drier through the drying sections. However, the drying gas is distributed over the product by centrally mounted turbine fans. 

We were interested in the drying mechanism of vernonia oil since it has two functionalities unsaturated double bonds and epoxy rings. For this purpose, we have compared the drying characteristics of triolein, vernonia oil, and epoxidized soybean oil in the presence of 0.5% cobalt drier under baking conditions at 150 C for one hour. The molecular structures of these three oils are shown in Figure 1.
