Rigid bandages

A plaster type non-elastic bandage, Unna s boot is favoured in the USA. However, compression would be achieved by three-layer dressing that consists of Unna s boot, continuous gauze dressing followed by an outer layer of elastic wrap. It should be stressed that Unna s boot, being rigid, is uncomfortable to wear and medical professionals are unable to monitor the ulcers after the boot is applied. [Pg.281]

Using any non-rigid means of support, such as elastic bandages, wraps, non-rigid back belts, etc. (devices with rigid stays or other systems designed to immobilize parts of the body are considered medical treatment) ... [Pg.288]

First-Aid Bandages. The most widespread medical PSA products are the small bandage strips. This bandage is composed of a backing material coated with an adhesive and a small absorbent wound pad [284], The adhesive layer is covered by a release paper or plastic film which is removed before use. For this kind of products plastic films (e.g., polyolefin), rigid or elastic fabrics, and nonwovens are applied. To attain an appropriate permeability, in many cases the backing material is perforated. [Pg.124]

Orthopedic Tapes. In orthopedic applications, PSA products are most frequently used as tapes and elastic adhesive bandages. The tapes consist of a rigid backing material (e.g., cotton fabric) coated with the PSA. They are used in therapeutic medical applications to control motions and to immobilize and to stabilize joints in athletic use. Orthopedic bandages are made from coated elastic material and often are used when compression and support are to be supplied to the extremities. [Pg.125]

Nonelastic bandages (rigid zinc oxide bandages). [Pg.115]
