Rhodium complexes molybdenum

A more complicated type of reaction leading to 2-styrylindoles is observed when 2-arylazirines are treated with the rhodium complexes,70 [(Ph3P)2 Rh(CO)Cl] or [Rh(CO)2Cl]2, or with dicobalt octacarbonyl71 (Scheme 42). In contrast, 2-arylazirines with molybdenum hexacarbonyl give pyrazines and dihydropyrazines, and with diiron enneacarbonyl give pyrroles (see Sections V,C,2 and IV,A,1, respectively). The use of relatively low molar ratios of 2-arylazirine to rhodium catalyst (2 1) causes the formation of 2,5-diarylpyrroles. 

Removal of thiophene impurities from petroleum feedstocks is accomplished by a process called hydrodesulfurization (HDS) which involves the insertion of metals into the thiophene ring between the C-S bond. In order to better understand the mechanism of this reaction, different groups have utilized selenophene model systems due to the enhanced NMR characteristics of Se. The lanthanide metals, with their larger coordination numbers, invariably have the ligand coordinated in either a trismonodentate or a tetrakismonodentate fashion (42, 55, 57) (see Figs. 10 and 11). Thus, the ligand apparently tends toward the maximization of its coordinating capacity where circumstances allow, giving rise in many cases to the formation of sheet or cage structures. Limited chain formation was observed in the platinum, palladium, and rhodium complexes described, while the molybdenum complexes described by Hilbers et al. consist of dinuclear and tetranuclear units.

SAPC can perform a broad spectrum of reactions such as hydroformylation, hydrogenation and oxidation, for the synthesis of bulk and fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals and their intermediates. Rhodium complexes are the most extensively used, but complexes of ruthenium, platinum, palladium, cobalt, molybdenum and copper have also been employed [63-65]. Owing to interfacial reactions, one of the main advantages of SAPC upon biphasic catalysis is that the solubility of the reactant in the catalytic aqueous-phase does not limit the performance of the supported aqueous phase catalysts.
