Biological. Carbofuran or their metabohtes (3-hydroxycaibofuran and 3-ketocart)ofu-ran) at normal and ten times the field application rate had no effect on Rhizobium sp. However, in a nitrogen-free culture me um, Azotobacter chroococcum growth was inhibited by carbofuran, 3-hydroxycarbofuran and 3-ketocarbofuran (Kale et al., 1989). 

In the 1930 s, a compound named bios was isolated from egg yolk and found to stimulate the growth of yeast. At about the same time, an extract of Rhizobium trifolii, which stimulated growth and respiration, was discovered. This new factor was called vitamin R. It has also been known for some time that raw egg whites inhibit the growth of young rats. This effect was shown to result from a compound called avidin in raw egg.
