Resveratrol antibacterial activity

Resveratrol [2], 3,4 ,5-trihydroxy-rra/ A-stilbene, is a phytoalexin found in grapes and other plants, that exhibits a variety of biological activities, including antileukemic, antibacterial, antifungal, anti antiplatelet aggregation, coronary vasodilator. Recently, it has been shown to induce apoptosis and decrease expression of Bcl-2 in the human leukaemia HL-60 cell line. [Pg.77]

The plant family Dipterocarpaceae is comprised of three subfamilies, Dipterocarpoideae, Monotoideae, and Pakaraimoideae. Species of the largest subfamily, Dipterocarpoideae, are of most interest because of their economic use in producing timber and oleoresins. Plants of the Dipterocarpoideae are typified as sources of oligostilbenoids (resveratrol oligomers) which have shown various biological activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, anti-HIV antiviral, and cytotoxic effects.
