Resist blur

Figure 9.2(a) or (b) shows the essence of the SCM, as discussed in outline in Section 9.1.2.1, for a partially reacted particle. There is a sharp boundary (the reaction surface) between the nonporous unreacted core of solid B and the porous outer shell of solid product (sometimes referred to as the ash layer, even though the ash is desired product). Outside the particle, there is a gas film reflecting the resistance to mass transfer of A from the bulk gas to the exterior surface of the particle. As time increases, the reaction surface moves progressively toward the center of the particle that is, the unreacted core of B shrinks (hence the name). The SCM is an idealized model, since the boundary between reacted and unreacted zones would tend to be blurred, which could be revealed by slicing the particle and examining the cross-section. If this... [Pg.229]

High energy ions can be used to expose resist materials (>100 keV ions are needed to penetrate typical resist layers) with the promise of less image blurring due to lateral scattering (proximity effect) than electrons. [Pg.34]

Its unit is Siemens-1 cm-1. These terms are used throughout this section interchangeably. These sensors are popularly called chemiresistors, which clearly implies their function. They are simple to fabricate, but the interpretation of their responses and the mechanism of their operation are anything but simple. The fundamental equivalency between current and resistance, which is inherent in the generalized Ohm s law (8.1), sometimes blurs the line between amperometric and conductometric sensors. Nevertheless, it is important to remember that chemiresis-... [Pg.241]

Moore et al. (1991) have also developed an extension to Land s retinex algorithm in order to reduce the effect of color induction. The modified algorithm computes the magnitude of the first spatial derivative. This derivative is also smoothed with a resistive grid. A blurred version of the input image is computed as before. The smoothed version of the derivative is used to modulate the blurred version of the input image before it is... [Pg.168]

Adverse effects Flecainide can cause dizziness, blurred vision, headache, and nausea. Like other Class IC drugs, flecainide can aggravate preexisting arrhythmias or induce life-threatening ventricular tachycardia that is resistant to treatment (see p. 166). [Pg.181]

Overall, ophthalmic ointments offer the following advantages reduced dilution of the medication via the tear film, resistance to nasolacrimal drainage, and an increased precorneal contact time [179,180], However, oily viscous preparations for ophthalmic use (such as ointments) can cause blurred vision and matting of the eyelids and may also be associated with discomfort by the patient as well as occasional ocular mucosal irritation. Ointments are therefore generally used in combination with eye drops, which can be administered during the day, while the ointment is applied at night, when clear vision is not required. [Pg.743]

Venlafaxine (Effexor) is a new antidepressant that has been studied in the treatment of people who did not benefit from other antidepressants ("treatment-resistant") where it was often foimd to be effective. It is an effective first-line agent, and is the first of the newer antidepressants to be both a potent serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Some studies suggest that it can produce benefits more quickly. Other than a tendency to produce a mild elevation of diastolic blood pressure, it has side effects similar to those of the SSRIs. Usual side effects from venlafaxine are nausea, anxiety, sedation, dizziness, blurred vision, and dry mouth. [Pg.150]
