Different sub-classes of peptaibols are recognized the long sequence peptaibols (18-20 residues), short sequence peptaibols (11-16 residues) and liptopeptaibols which contain 7 or 11 residues with the N-terminal amino acid acylated by a short lipidic chain instead of an acetyl group. 

Whilst the early reports of intermediate phases concerned systems with reversed curvature [73-76] these were for surfactants where some residual short range order in the polar groups was probably present. There are few definitive reports of fully molten intermediate phases with reversed curvatures. In fact the pattern of how intermediate phases replace the normal bicontinuous cubic phase as alkyl chain size increase only became recognized as systematic studies on homologous series were carried out [37, 66], Here it has required a combination of microscopy, multinuclear NMR and X-ray diffraction to elucidate the structures. Such studies on reversed phases have yet to be carried out, particularly where small variations in alkyl chain structure are made. 

The aim of restabilising is to prepare a material for a new service life. It is first necessary to establish the content and nature of any residual short- and longterm stabilisers present, as well as the effects of processing and use on these stabilisers. The type and quantity of stabilisers that must then be added will depend upon the application requirements. To calculate the effect of repeated processing and use of a material, repeated-processing with intermediate ageing can be done [45].

Residual short oligomer chains from the polymer production process are not taken into account which may affect the degradation rate. 

Edges of the test specimens should preferably be sawed or machined. If specimens are obtained by shearing, the plastically deformed edges should be dressed by machining, sanding, or filing to a depth equal to the specimen thickness to remove residual short transverse tensile stresses. With very susceptible matericils stress-corrosion cracks parallel to the surface may initiate in the edges.
