Residual pressure drop

As noted, the weir crest is calculated on an equivalent clear-liquid basis. A more realistic approach is to recognize that in general a froth or spray flows over the outlet weir (settling can occur upstream of the weir if a large calming zone with no dispersers is used). Bennett et al. [AIChE J., 29, 434 (1983)] allowed for froth overflow in a comprehensive study of pressure drop across sieve plates their correlation for residual pressure drop /jf in Eq. (14-87) is represented by Eqs. (14-115) through (14-120) ... [Pg.1378]

The Bennett et al. correlation. This correlation was shown (31) to predict experimental sieve tray pressure drop data more accurately than Fair s correlation. The correlation is based on froth regime considerations and is not applicable to the spray regime. The Bennett et al. calculation of dry pressure drop is identical to Fair s, using Eqs. (6.42) and (6.43) and the Liebson et al- correlation (Fig. 6.21a). To calculate the h, term in Eq. (6.41), Bennett et al. depart from the concept of clear liquid flow corrected for aeration effects [Eq. (6.47a)]. Instead, they use Eq, (6.476) and a model of froth flow across the weir. Their residual pressure drop, hn, is a surface tension head loss term, which is important for trays with very small holes ([Pg.317]

Fig. 6 shows the variation in and residual pressure drop during six hours of operation. K is calculated from Eq. 4. Calculated mean specific cake resistance equals 6.5-10 [s ], with a standard deviation of approx. 15%. is defined as the velocity across the exposed filter surface (vy 2 U,). Observed fluctuations in pressure build-up did not result in any increase in the residual pressure drop. The residual pressure drop could be maintained at a constant level. The average filtration efficiency was 0.9983. Filter regeneration was conducted with off-line pulsing (P,a = 2barg and total sand spill of 10 kg). [Pg.736]

Fig. 7 a) shows both base and maximum pressure loss (just before and after regeneration respectively) for some sample filtration series. The base pressure loss (APo) shows a linear dependency of Increase in the residual pressure drop due to depth filtration, dust re-entrainment and fractional cleaning is well known to cause serious filter degrading and may lead to total filter blinding. During the 80 hours of field operation such systematic degrading effects has not been observed. [Pg.738]
