2 Research Spectrometers with Active Wavelength Stabilization 

The capabilities of classical spectrometers, which generate low order spectra by using either concave or plane gratings, are well known from LS AAS and other analytical techniques [73,150]. They undoubtedly offer interesting features for a variety of applications characterized particularly by low or medium spectral resolution. But it will be shown in the following sections that only specially designed echelle spectrometers with either internal or external order separation in combination with modern solid-state detectors have the potential to meet all of the requirements listed above for HR-CS AAS.
