Relaxation length

The coiled cable is not acceptable for low-speed (i.e., less than 300 rpm) applications or where there is a strong electromagnetic field. Because of its natural tendency to return to its relaxed length, the coiled cable generates a low level frequency that corresponds to the oscillation rate of the cable. In low-speed applications, this oscillation frequency can mask real vibration that is generated by the machine. [Pg.690]

Length of an elastically deformed specimen, and its relaxed length (Chap. XI). [Pg.643]

First, it is assumed that the EEDF is spatially uniform and temporally constant, which is allowed if the energy relaxation time of the EEDF is much shorter than the RF-cycle duration, and if the relaxation length is much smaller than the typical gradient scale length. This assumption implies a spatially and temporally constant electric field. It reduces the Boltzmann equation to a problem exclusively in the velocity space. [Pg.48]

If d is smaller than the electron mean free path l (l l = It1 + l l, li is the elastic mean free path), the electrons flow through the contact ballistically. In opposite cases (d f>> l) they perform a diffusive motion, but if the energy relaxation length Ae remains larger than d,... [Pg.249]

The characteristic parameter A is called the relaxation length of the coupled reaction-diffusion processes within a membrane. [Pg.528]

Bead on a horizontal wire) A bead of mass m is constrained to slide along a straight horizontal wire. A spring of relaxed length Lg and spring constant k is attached to the mass and to a support point a distance h from the wire (Figure 1). [Pg.84]

Massive fibers of collagen are capable of being extended only a little beyond normal relaxed length before rupture occurs. This fact has been widely used as an indication that the thinnest elements (polypeptide... [Pg.119]

The figure clearly illustrates that the boundary value f i,U) for the anisotropic distribution initiates a weakly damped, spatially periodic relaxation of the density and energy current density of the electrons, and that the corresponding relaxation length becomes very large and takes about 100 cm at this field. This periodic relaxation behavior is in substantial contrast to the largely monotone evolution of all important electron kinetic quantities in the temporal relaxation process shown above. [Pg.65]

Moderate-pressure CCP discharges assume energy relaxation lengths smaller than sizes of plasma zone and sheaths < L, Zp, which corresponds to the pressure interval... [Pg.217]
