Regression equations conformation

The regression equations were established for data in 11 alcohols as solvents and were used to assess the peculiar behaviour of another 15 orf/zo-substituents in respect of conformational effect and intramolecular hydrogen-bonding143,145. Flere we are concerned with assessing the situation for o-N02. We first give as an example the regression for 2-methoxyethanol as solvent ... [Pg.502]

The symbols were defined in Section IV.B.) A full discussion of the ortfio-effect as revealed in this work would be inappropriate here. We must restrict ourselves to the more limited task of indicating the role of o-N02. We discuss first the work involving alcohols as solvents. To apply the extended Hammett equation, i.e. to determine the regression coefficients a, fi and

intercept term h, it is first necessary to select a set of substituents which can be expected to be well-behaved . Particular problems for or and v may be caused by conformational effects, and internal hydrogen-bonding may occur... [Pg.501]

Table 3.9 lists general regression parameters between AgO and the Gibbs free energy of formation from constituent oxides, for various classes of substances. The values conform to the general equation... [Pg.153]

The above studies clearly show that a number of different equations often describe rate data for soil constituents satisfactorily based on linear regression analyses. However, no single equation best describes every study, and conformity of data to a particular equation does not necessarily indicate that it is the best one to use. Moreover, one must be very careful not to attach mechanistic significance to linear plots based on the use of a given model. [Pg.31]

This equation of a straight line takes into account a slight difference of the base lines by the constant a. By applying least-squares regression the constants a and b are determined. The variance of A(R) indicates the degree of conformity between the two spectra. If sample and reference spectrum differ only slightly, the spectra should be compared blockwise, and the standard deviations of the different blocks should be used. This method is useful for spectra which show a sufficient number of sharp bands. It may fail if there are broad bands, in which case it is necessary to compare the second derivatives of the spectra. The algorithm is shown in Fig. 5.1-15. [Pg.441]

The application of the conformal solution method in industrial calculations requires the use of the approximation A = Ax to avoid the lengthy computation required to calculate the higher order terms in Equation 2. Thus, a practical strategy for choosing the exponents k, 1, m, p, q, r, u, v, and w in Equations 3, 4, and 5 would be through minimization of the difference A — Ax (actually, data for all available mixture thermodynamic properties can be used simultaneously to determine the exponents by regression). However, most applications of the conformal solution method have involved the use of exponents based on molecular theory and so this approach was used in the initial phases of the present work. [Pg.135]
