Reference inflation index

A reference inflation index for the pricing of products already on the market should be defined or established as a reference for price regulation.

Very often, the published cost data (a primary resource is Chemical Engineering) refer to a specific year and apply to a location of the plant in North America. It is therefore necessary to correct the cost estimate for the inflation index and also for different geographical locations. Local cost of energy, as well as the local regulations (environmental, taxes, cus-... 

Once the cost of each piece of major equipment is known, it must be adjusted by construction cost indexes. Due to inflation and changing competitive situations, the price of equipment changes from year to year (Reference 26). Fortunately, there are several indexes that help in estimating today s costs based on historical data. Some of these indexes are Nelson Refinery Construction Cost... 

The chemical engineering (CE) index and the Marshall and Swift index are found in each issue of the magazine Chemical Engineering. The Oil and Gas Journal reports the Nelson-Farrar Refinery indices in the first issue of each quarter. The base years selected for each index are generally periods of low inflation so that the index is stable. The derivation of base values is referred to in the respective publications. 

Relevance to potatoes Gl gives an inflated idea of the glycemic impact of entire potatoes (Table 13.2) because it refers to the available carbohydrate alone, yet potatoes contain only about 20% available carbohydrate. Because it is an index, Gl does not directly indicate how glycemic impact is affected by the quantity of food consumed, unlike RGI.
