Reference design, selection

This subcommittee prepared the broad outline for the book, identified the scope and major key references, and selected the title "Guidelines for Chemical Reactivity Evaluation and Application to Process Design" as representative of the concepts desired. The TNO Prins Maurits Laboratory, Rijswijk, The Netherlands, was chosen as the contractor with Dr. A. Henk Heemskerk as the project manager.

You evaluate a series of points about a reference point selected according to some type of design such as the ones shown in Figure 6.1 (for an objective function of two variables). The present German HTGR reference design is the HTR-MODUL containing a large number of safety features with the possibility of process heat applications [76]. There are two general approaches for computer-aided identification of infrared spectra of unknown compounds [173,196-199,248-250]. Such commonalities and differences set the stage for the design of model complexes. Assuming that functional models should have at least some structural features in common with the active sites, dithiolate-bridged binuclear complexes have been targeted. FUNCTION Remove Core Heat This function refers to the necessity to remove the reactor heat during off-normal conditions so that fuel temperatures are not excessive. Since the design selections needed to meet Criterion II and Criterion III limit chemical attack and fission heat generation, the principal requirement is to assure reliable decay heat removal.

Also based on data selected from the literature on EBR-II and ALMR, a set of reference values for thermohydraulics calculations have been fixed and used for the reference design of the Intermediate Heat Exchangers (IHX), which are straight shell/tube (primary coolant in shell) and counterflow type. REARA-60 has two identical IHXs, each one associated with two pumps, whose characteristics are not defined yet.

A Reference Design for the primary circuit of a 60 MWt experimental fast reactor is completed. Some parameters and characteristics have been selected mostly based on the Integral Fast Reactor (IFR) concept. Fuel pin dimensions and other data were used for calculations which lead to a general core configuration. Some calculations were also independently performed at lEN, and the differences in methodologies are being evaluated. Table 1 shows the main primary circuit parameters. 

Studies for the selection of the reference design con-figuratiem consisted of determining the effects of lumped poison rods on Y rod worth and the effects ni various fuel and lumped poison rod arrays on the shutdown margin for stuck rod conditions and total reactivity.
