Recursion discovery

In the case of human amylin and Afi our understanding of the diversity in amyloid fibril architecture is the result of a recursive process, since the early morphological observations were followed by assessment of the assembly pathway which in turn yielded a better understanding of fibril polymorphism. However, this structural knowledge is secondary compared to the discovery of small oligomers, globular oligomers, and early protofibrils that appear to be extremely cytotoxic (Hartley etal., 1999 Lambert et al, 1998 Walsh et al, 1999). [Pg.226]

A commonly used technique for analyzing drug discovery screening data from individuals is recursive partitioning (RP), more commonly known as trees (see, for example, Blower et al., 2002). In very recent times, efforts based on multiple trees (Svetniket al., 2003) have become the method of choice, despite the additional difficulties associated with them, because of their good predictive abilities. [Pg.63]

Consumers have heterogeneous valuations for the good, represented by willingness to pay V. Each consumer purchases at most one item, and the population has a uniform distribution of on a unit interval. Consumers have an expectation of the equilibrium distribution of prices F pi), but individual intermediaries prices are revealed only through search. This discovery takes time, delaying the consumer s benefit from purchase. This is modeled by applying a discount factor / G (0,1) to the value of the good. Based on a recursive... [Pg.578]

The power of these methods lies in their ability to discern relationships in data that are inherently noisy. The data are treated as categorical rather that continuous active (yes), inactive (no) and a variable category of unassigned data (maybe). These methods are deterministic and, as such, derive all relationships between all compounds at all levels of support. The relationships or patterns are scored based on their information content. Unlike methods such as recursive partitioning, pattern discovery is not greedy and is complete. The discrimination ability of pattern discovery depends very much on the quality of the data generated and on the type and condition of the compounds if either is questionable, the... [Pg.174]

CXir second discovery by scanning the explicit expressions however yields a most useful result the derivatives of the polynomials can be computed by a concise two-term recursive relation, i.e. [Pg.192]
