Rectovaginal

An estrogen dependent disorder characterized by the presence of uterine tissue at sites other than the uterus such as the peritoneum, ovaries and rectovaginal and rarely in the pericardium, pleura and brain.

Infliximab is used to reduce signs, symptoms and progression of rheumatoid arthritis. It is indicated for patients with moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis, where infliximab reduces infiltration of inflammatory cells into the inflamed areas of joints. Infliximab is also indicated in moderate to severely active Crohn s disease. It is used to reduce signs and symptoms and to maintain clinical remission. The number of draining enterocutaneous and rectovaginal fistulas is reduced by infliximab. It helps to maintain fistula closure in patients with fistulizing Crohn s disease. 

The diagnostic work-up for suspected ovarian cancer includes a careful physical examination including a thorough breast examination, a Pap smear, and a rectovaginal examination. A detailed family history should be taken, especially noting the rate and pattern of relatives with malignancies. 

All women should have a comprehensive family history taken that focuses on all the known ovarian cancer risk factors. Rectovaginal pelvic exam should be performed as part of ordinary medical care. 

The borders of the posterior compartment are the skeletal elements of the sacrum and the coccyx dorsally. The borders are the components of the levator ani muscle laterally and the perineal body caudally (Fig. 1.1b). No distinct borders can be described ventrally, whereas the rectovaginal fascia/septum constitutes the dorsal border. The middle compartment contains the female genital organs that are arranged in a more or less coronal plane. In more detail the ovaries, the uterine tubes, the uterus and the vagina are situated in this compartment (Fig. 1.1a).

Dorsomedially,the middle compartment abuts the posterior compartment. The border between these compartments is demarcated by the rectovaginal fascia/septum (see also Sect 1.3.1), that is composed of dense coimective tissue, elastic fibers [44] and smooth muscle cells that belong to the longitudinal layer of the rectal wall.
